January is usually the time of the year when we look ahead, make decisions and resolutions for what we want to achieve in the future.
A good place to start, funny as it might seem, is by looking back.
Take a moment to reflect back on previous Januarys:
- What goals did you set out to achieve and how did it go?
- What worked best for you?
- What kept you stuck?
- What have you achieved, and how?
- What mistakes did you make along the way, and what did those mistakes taught you?
This exercise of self-reflection is very useful to help you identify patterns, triggers and habits that can either facilitate or hinder achieving your goals.
Make this a regular practice, and reflect on your current goals, what you are doing to accomplish
them and what you can do better or differently.
- Think about enrolling an accountability buddy to keep you honest and grounded. Think of your goals as a journey, and not a “all-or-nothing” situation.
Celebrate every step taken towards the goal, and accept that sometimes a step back today maybecome a leap forward tomorrow.
