January is usually the time of the year when we look ahead, make decisions and resolutions for what we want to achieve in the future.
A good place to start, funny as it might seem, is by looking back.
Take a moment to reflect back on previous Januarys:
What goals did you set out to achieve and how did it go?
What worked best for you?
What kept you stuck?
What have you achieved, and how?
What mistakes did you make along the way, and what did those mistakes taught you?
This exercise of self-reflection is very useful to help you identify patterns, triggers and habits that can either facilitate or hinder achieving your goals.
Make this a regular practice, and reflect on your current goals, what you are doing to accomplish them and what you can do better or differently.
Think about enrolling an accountability buddy to keep you honest and grounded. Think of your goals as a journey, and not a “all-or-nothing” situation.
Celebrate every step taken towards the goal, and accept that sometimes a step back today maybecome a leap forward tomorrow.
